Railway song of the week

"Choo Choo" by the Arctic Monkeys is an early track that embodies the raw, gritty energy the band was known for in their formative years. Although it never made it onto a studio album, the song reflects the punk-rock edge that shaped the band’s identity and has remained a fan favourite among those who appreciate their pre-fame work. With witty, rapid-fire lyrics and sharp guitar riffs, "Choo Choo" captures the youthful exuberance and playful irreverence that would eventually catapult the band into the spotlight.

The track exemplifies the Arctic Monkeys’ DIY beginnings, with rough production and infectious energy that invites listeners to feel as if they’re witnessing a basement jam session. Its structure is simple yet effective, with a relentless rhythm that builds anticipation and perfectly mirrors the band’s early performance style. Though not as polished as their later work, "Choo Choo" gives fans a glimpse into the raw talent and charisma that defined the band in their early Sheffield days. It’s a gem for dedicated followers, encapsulating a time when the Arctic Monkeys were just beginning their ascent in the music scene.

Something a bit different this week: we have found a page of advertisements from the Railway Magazine from November 1899. We let you appreciate the types of ads from the time as we do not think this needs further comments. Simply click on the picture to see the image in full size.

These delightful vignettes will bring your model world to life with humour, drama and everyday situations. Let's explore some of the offerings that could transform your layout from static to dynamic.

Imagine the chuckles as visitors spot a harried postman fleeing from an enthusiastic labrador in the "Postman On The Run" set. Or picture the nostalgia evoked by the "Refueling Please" scene, with its 1950s-70s era petrol station attendants tending to a bright yellow Fiat 500. For a touch of excitement, the "Motor Fire" set depicts a smoking VW Passat with its owner ready to tackle the flames. These small but impactful scenes can add interest to any corner of your layout.

For those modelling urban scenes, Busch offers several automotive-themed sets. The "American Motorcycle with Biker Figure" adds a touch of rebellion to your streets. The "Oil Change" set brings a garage to life with a VW Beetle on a ramp undergoing maintenance. And for roadside drama, the "Flat Tire" set shows a hapless driver changing a wheel on his VW Passat. These scenes will add relatable, everyday moments to your layout.

If you're modelling a winter scene, Busch has you covered. The "Dog Sled" set features a trike pulled by two huskies, perfect for an unusual winter transport scene. For a dramatic winter rescue, the "Ice Rescue" set includes two rescuers in wetsuits saving a person from icy waters. And for a touch of winter inconvenience, the "Snow Day" set shows a woman clearing snow from her car windscreen. These sets will bring your winter wonderland to life.

For even more winter fun, consider the "Huskie Scooter" set, featuring a dog sledge with two huskies and a driver. The "Ice Carving" set adds a unique touch with an artist creating a VW Beetle ice sculpture. And for a different take on dog sledding, there's the "Dog Sled B" set with a traditional sled pulled by energetic huskies. These sets will add charm and interest to any winter or Alpine-themed layout.

With these Busch action sets, you can transform your layout from a static display into a world teeming with life and activity. Each set tells a story, inviting viewers to imagine the lives of these tiny figures. So why not add a touch of drama, humour or everyday life to your model world? Your layout will thank you for it!
