Railway song of the week
Reader Wayne Prowse in Australia contacted us to suggest this song. The Indian Pacific train, which runs from Sydney to Perth, inspired Slim Dusty's song "Indian Pacific," recorded in 1981. Slim Dusty, a legendary Australian country music figure, was celebrated for his contribution to the "bush ballad" genre, with a career spanning nearly seven decades. Known as Australia's "King of Country Music," Dusty released over a hundred albums, earned numerous accolades and became a cultural icon. His music, particularly his trucking songs, continued to resonate with long-distance drivers, keeping them company on long hauls. Dusty's contributions to Australian music and culture earned him numerous awards.
This week in history
On 29th September 1988, the space shuttle Discovery lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, signaling the long-awaited restart of NASA's shuttle program. This launch came after a significant hiatus, as the program had been put on hold following the tragic Challenger explosion in 1986, which claimed the lives of seven astronauts. The return to flight was a pivotal moment for NASA, reflecting years of safety reviews and technological improvements aimed at preventing similar disasters and restoring public confidence in space exploration.
Do you have one of them?
The Bedford OB bus is iconic and even more on the Isle of Wight in its striking green Southern Vectis livery. This is the latest model from Rapido and is probably the most detailed Bedford OB ever released in OO gauge.
Bringing Your N and OO Gauge Gardens to Life
Are you looking to add some realistic greenery to your N gauge layout? Look no further than Tasma Products' range of miniature plants and crops.
Their N gauge offerings include
straw bales, cabbages and delphiniums - perfect for creating rural scenes or adding detail to gardens. The straw bale set gives you 25 bales in both round and rectangular shapes. For vegetable patches, you can plant 18 realistic cabbages. And to add some height and colour, why not include 12 delicate delphiniums standing 12mm tall?
But that's not all for
N gauge enthusiasts. They also offer strawberry plants, primroses and bulrushes to further enhance your miniature world. Imagine a quaint cottage garden with
20 strawberry plants or a colourful display of
18 primroses. For those waterside scenes, 20 realistic
bulrushes will add that perfect touch of authenticity.
Moving up to
OO gauge, Tasma doesn't disappoint. Their range includes
pole beans, hay bales and climbing vines with flowers. Picture an allotment scene with 20 runner bean plants on poles or a farm with 30 hay bales in both round and rectangular shapes. For that cottage charm, why not add some climbing vines with flowers in a variety of colours?
Lastly, for those detailed
OO gauge scenes, consider their
apple saplings, sedge and nettles. Ten apple saplings can create a young orchard, while a sheet of sedge measuring 125mm x 155mm can cover a large area of marshy ground. And for those neglected corners of your layout, why not add some realistic nettles?
With Tasma's extensive range of flora for both N and OO gauge, you're sure to find the perfect plants to bring your layout to life.
