Railway song of the week

This week sees the start of the rock festival season with the Isle of Wight Festival this weekend and Glastonbury next week. One of the most famous festivals to grace our ears for 20 years has been Ozzfest founded by Sharon Osbourne. This is why we have decided to introduce Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train as railway song of the week. Reaching no 49 in the UK singles charts and No 9 in the US Billboard top track chart in 1980, this is a heavy metal song with a great guitar solo, a memorable riff and Ozzy's voice. This week in history

On the 22nd of June 1942, work gets on the way to construct a railway between Bangkok and Rangoon. The railway, infamously known as the Burma Railway, was built by the Empire of Japan who used forced labour including local civilians and Allied Prisoners of War to complete the route. Many of those who were put to work building the railway sadly perished during its construction, leading to the nickname "Death Railway".

Do you have one?

This week's tool for thought is a set of curved nose pliers by Expotools. This handy tool is ideal for the placement or retrieval of components in awkward to reach places and comes with an insulated, spring-loaded grips for ease of use.

Making trees and oiling trains

The warmer weather is here. There are leaves on the trees and the evenings are getting lighter. So how about making some trees? Simply get some armatures and foliage and you can "spruce" up your layout. All these are suitable for all scale layouts.

Keep those locos and rolling stock oiled and greased and in tip-top condition. There is nothing worse than a sticky motor and squeaky wheels. So, for smooth running and less wear and tear on those gears and bearings, we recommend oiling them every few months.
