Railway song of the week

Reader David Morris contacted us to suggest a rock song as the railway song of the week. He did not pick any rock band, he went for the ultimate one: AC/DC. Their song "Rock N Roll Train" is from 2008 album "Black Ice" and is typical AC/DC fare. The version below is from their live album "Live at River Plate" recorded in Argentina. Any hard rock fan knows that South America is the place where you find the best fans of this music genre so, click on the picture to enjoy the great atmosphere from a live concert from one of the best rock bands.

This week in history

On the 13th of June 1941, the railway line between Hauerseter and Gardermoen in Norway was opened by the Luftwaffe during Germany's occupation of the country. This was to be used only for military transport till the end of the war in 1945.

How do you like your wargames figures?

Wargaming is a great hobby: not only o you get to enjoy painting miniatures but if you are so inclined, you get to send them to battle, fictional or not! While initially mostly using 1/72 ("20mm" for wargamers who do not use scale but the size of a typical standard figure, measured from foot to eye level), over the years there has been an increase in sizes and lately things to have settled on 1/56 also called 28mm.

There are various subgenres inside wargaming, from historical military battles to futuristic skirmishes and fantasy ambushes. Most manufacturers tend to stick to one type but this is not the case for relatively recent manufacturer Wargames Atlantic: they want to cover it all! You can browse the full range here or click on the pictures to see a few ideas. As they are all 28mm, you can mix boxes and probably use them with other manufacturers as well.

If you like the Second World War, you probably want to consider the British Expeditionary Forces and the British SAS / Commandos. They both contain 30 figures in each box. If you prefer fantasy, you know that nothing could be better than Skeletons on chariots or if you want less bony, a set of goblins. The future is a scary place and the Harvesters are definitely not monsters you would want to encounter. Mind you, the Steampunk styled "Grognards" are very likely to be happy to fight the critters...

When we said, Wargames Atlantic try to cover it all, we meant it. Do you know of any other manufacturer offerings French infantry for War World One at the same time they do Napoleonic Wars' Prussians, Conquistadors from the 16th century, Romans from 2000 years ago and even, Afghan cavalry and warriors?
