Railway song of the week

This week, we would like to share a great song from the posthumous album of American singer Jim Croce, released a couple of years after his untimely death in a place crash. The song title is "Railroad Song" and it was written by him and his wife, Ingrid. The video is a continuous shot of an American steam train. It is a bit blurry but quite exciting. So feast your ears and eyes by clicking on the picture:

This week in history

On the 21st of February 1954, CC 7121 (a specially modified SNCF CC 7100 Class electric locomotive) broke the rail speed record when it achieved 151 mph. The record-breaking run took place on the line that connects Dijon with Beaune in France.

Did you know this existed?

This week's lesser known item is a pack of 100 Gold Plated Pins from DCC Concepts. The hardened and gold plated pins can be used for fixing working point rodding rod stools, track or many other things around the layout.
Small and subtle but very strong, the gold plating also makes them easy to solder to.

Animal (and human) crossing

There are a few items that make the perfect train layout: a level crossing is one of them. There are numerous items available in OO and N gauge and they are very easy to install. The Peco system in OO gauge gives you the ultimate flexibility by allowing you to add as many add-ons as required to make the crossing as wide as needed.

They exist in N gauge as well:

They are also available in curved versions from first radius to fourth radius, in OO gauge, so your crossing can be anywhere.

If you want a bit of variety or if you prefer to build your crossing, various types of gates and barriers can be obtained in OO gauge:

And a few of them are also available in N gauge:
