Hello,

Sound used to be the next frontier but it has now been reached. Engines with sound have been around for a few years now in OO gauge. Cheaper versions of DCC sound were released last year by Hornby (less than £90 for a class 37 or a class 40, less than £100 for an A4). For those without DCC, the Train Tech sound capsules are a great alternatives and they sound fabulous.

In N gauge, sound has always been difficult due to the small space available. Once again, the Train Tech sound capsule can be a solution, as it can be used as a "weird load" on a flat wagon. That being said, affordable ready to run locomotives with sound are not common.

However, we are happy to report we have a stock a very nice N gauge engine with sound, at a reasonable price. It is from Bachmann and is not only DCC fitted but also analogue compatible. So you can have a ready to run N gauge engine with sound without having to change your controller if you prefer running your locomotives in analogue mode. I know it is an American engine, however I am confident with a bit of green paint, it could easily pass for a British Class 45!

Because a layout has to be lively, we have expanded - once again - the range we carry from P&D Marsh. Those British made figures are white metal and as such heavier than their plastic counterparts. They are also true OO scale (slightly taller than Noch and Preiser figures which are HO) and are available painted or unpainted. They are also available in N gauge. And now, for some pictures:

We have received a large delivery from Classix. As you are probably aware, they specialise in good quality cars, mostly from the 50s-70s, in OO scale. They do vehicles which are not available from Oxford and as such, are worth considering. Here are a few examples:

Finally, we need boxes for our hobby. There are too many small parts (couplings, screws, bits of kits and everything else we usually drop on the carpet) to simply have them scattered on the desk. We need boxes, but they have to be small (so we do not have too many parts in each), they have to have a lid (so we can knock them without losing everything and they have to be transparent so we can see what is inside them. We have found such boxes for our own needs (we wanted to display a few things in the shop) and are happy to share our findings. They come in packs of three and cost only £1 for the set.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
