Hello
Don't forget to read our latest modelling tips and unboxing videos located at the bottom of the newsletter.
Two great things are happening next weekend on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of May. First, the Rydabus event will take place across the Isle of Wight. You will have the opportunity to ride vintage buses like the Leyland Olympian, Bristol L6B or Bedford CFL. More than 20 buses will be available during this free event. Click this link for more details.
And on Saturday night is the Eurovision Song Contest!
This week in history
On Thursday 9th May 1912, the first aircraft to successfully take off from the deck of a moving ship at sea was successfully launched from a purpose-built ramp on the deck of the battleship HMS Hibernia in Weymouth Bay. Commander C.R. Samson RN used a specially modified Short S.27 biplane for the task which helped prove that seaborne aviation was a viable concept.
Tool for thought
This week's tool for thought is a pair of cross-locking tweezers by Expo Tools. The tool is ideal for soldering jobs or the placement and retrieval of small parts or components and the cross-locking mechanism ensures a competent grip while the anti-magnetic jaws allows the release of small metal parts as required.
Say it with Busch flowers
No matter which era you're modelling,
flowers play a big part in the environment. Whether they be in a neatly kept garden, park, public space, growing wild or part of a proud station master's platform display,
they are everywhere.
When modelling flowers there are generally two options, these are the use of coloured scatter to give the illusion of flowers or the creation of individual detailed plants and flowers for the ultimate detail.
Most will opt for the first option, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you have already decided on the latter,
Busch is a good place to start as they produce a
huge variety of HO gauge plastic plant and flower kits covering a range of types and perceived habitats. They are obviously suitable for OO gauge.
Busch's simplest flower kits contain a single type of flower and include examples such as their
roses, tulips or daisy sets. You get a plentiful supply with
120 individual flowers or plants in each kit. Parts are pre-coloured so painting is not required unless you choose and stems fit into an
included base to keep them upright. Modellers can use the kits to create whole fields or just patches of flowers as desired. Alternatively, they can be spread around a layout to populate a number of gardens and floral displays.
For a 'well kept' appearance to a small cottage or garden, you might consider a kit that includes
window boxes or planters.
Other intriguing kits includes their
garden design kit, flower and plant kit and late summer undergrowth kit. The first two are ideal for creating large scenes, while the latter features a number of plants nearing the end of their lives,
ideal for railway shoulders.
For watery scenes, Busch's
bull rushes kit will add a realistic feature, their
climbing vines are ideal for making model buildings appear unique and their
autumn landscape kit contains everything needed to give an autumnal feel to a patch of wasteland.
These are just
some of the flower kits Busch has to offer, so why not
have a look for yourself to see what your layout could be saying with flowers!
