Modellings tips and answers - N gauge figures and 1/35 accessories - Videos

Hello

We know sometimes friends and family can be a bit too eager to please and may shower you with chocolate at Easter. As you may have heard from us in the past, we love chocolate in all shapes and forms. So, if you are unsure what to do with these extra chocolate eggs or those chocolate bars, we will happily accept them next time you are coming to the shop in Sandown!

And don't forget to read our latest modelling tips and unboxing videos located at the bottom of the newsletter.

This week in history

On 17th April 1970, the damaged US spacecraft Apollo 13 made a safe return to Earth splashing down in the South Pacific.  This became a defining moment in space exploration after the crew and mission support teams working together achieved the safe return of a damaged spacecraft to Earth.

Tool of the week

This week's tool for thought is a set of Micro Stix by Microbrush. Micro Stix are disposable adhesive-tip applicators designed to securely hold and place fragile or small items.

These innovative tools give you the confidence to handle and place fragile items. They are ideal for placing items such as small plastic or photo-etch parts in model kits. They leave no residue behind.

Tiny people and huge accessories

If you're an N gauge modeller who thinks there isn't a great choice of figures out there for your railway, then think again! Graham Farish produces a large range of ready painted, ready-to-plant N gauge figures exhibiting a variety of poses, purposes and professions.

You would have to search harder to find an area of the layout the range doesn't cover than those that it does. There are figure sets portraying everyday comings and goings such as customers and passengers as well as town inspired trades people and urban workers. The countryside is also well covered with livestock and farming figure sets and as for the railway, there are worker figure sets for both on and off the footplate!

From the big thinkers of N gauge model railways to modellers that simply think big! 1:35 scale is an ever popular scale for many creators of wartime dioramas. Accessories in this scale are sometimes harder to source as they generally don't receive a lot of attention in the modelling press. As such, you may not be aware that Vallejo, usually known for their paints, produces a selection of accessories designed to enhance your scenes.

Mainly moulded in resin, models include unpainted fallen tree trunks and free standing tree stumps as well as man-made features such as Jerrycans and barrels. They also produce a set of wooden pallets (made from real wood) and an interesting set of individual bricks for creating piles of war-torn rubble or building your own walls brick by brick (if you have the patience!).
