This week in history
On the 15th February 1930, the Taurus Express ran for the first time. The Taurus Express has had many destination and origin points over the years, the most notable being the original route from Istanbul to Bagdad.
Did you know this existed?
This week's lesser known item is a pack of rigging by AMMO. Although 'rigging' has been produced with model boat builders in mind, it also has many other modelling uses. The fine 0.03 mm thick thread is strong, mildly elasticated and paintable making it perfect for rigging naval vessels, antennas and aircraft. Rigging from AMMO is the most versatile and easy to use rigging product available today and comes in a 2m pack.
Modelling a station in N gauge using Kestrel Designs kits
Kestrel Designs is the name given to a range of
plastic N gauge kits by Gaugemaster. It features
well over fifty kits covering all sorts of railway-related models, many of which relate to stations.
For many modellers,
a station is one of the first main structures to be considered when planning a layout. And choices are made at this stage that will likely influence the style, appearance and materials used for many subsequent models. If you are designing an N gauge layout, and have settled on plastic as your preferred material for the majority of buildings, then the Kestrel Design range may be for you.
When it comes to stations, these
easy to construct models allow you to design or extend your station as you wish, by utilising a
choice of platform widths and ramp sections, free-standing
canopies and station buildings. Kits are supplied with pre-coloured parts to get you off to a good start, but as with most plastic kits,
painting and weathering are essential to achieve a realistic effect.
The range also includes convenient combination sets such as the Country Station or Island Platform with Canopy kits, both of which are made up from the singular elements mentioned above. If it's a bigger or mainline theme you desire for your station, the Town Station kit provides more buildings and a style better suited to larger stations, while the simply named Station kit includes a signal box and water tower to complement your scene. Modern stations are covered too with the Modern Station and Modern Waiting Room kits, allowing you the option to create stations with an up to date glazed façade.
