Hello,
Soldering can be a daunting prospect if you do not have the experience. It also requires a few tools which may not have yet. There is now an alternative to soldering: wire glue. This special compound is basically like a thick paint, made of carbon in suspension in a non-toxic binding agent. This allows you to "glue" wires or metal parts together while making sure the electricity can flow.
Using it is very simple:
Apart from being used by people who do not like soldering, this is a great way to make electrical connections inside small models: if you are building a signal out of plastic, the last thing you want to do is use a soldering iron on it!
This can also be used to add lights on small figures (say to power a lamp in a signalman hand) or even to run electricity outside buildings: simply paint over the glue when dry to hide it.
Possibilities are endless. Let us know what you have created with it and we will share it here.
Here are two videos showing wire glue in action: the first one shows a basic test, the second video demonstrates its use with model railway signals.
One last thing: as this is non toxic, we can post it cheaply to you. Contact us for details. Obviously, this is also in stock at Upstairs Downstairs if you live on the Isle of Wight.
We have just received the latest Hornby locomotive with sound: Class 40 in BR green with about 20 different integrated sounds. This locomotive is DCC fitted and is also analogue compatible (without sound if used on analogue layouts). The price? Well under £100.
Finally, we are happy to report we are now re-opening on Sunday afternoons, from Sunday the 8th of February from 1pm till 4pm.
Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.
Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!
Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
