Hello
Don't forget to read our latest modelling tips located at the bottom of the newsletter.
Walter De Vos sent us some pictures of the N gauge layout he has been building for the past 18 months. He added: "A small board but nevertheless almost the real thing. The name of this virtual place is McBaren Village and situated in Scotland." Click on the pictures to see more.
This week in history - On
March 7th 1966, the former '
Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway' was closed to nearly all rail operations leaving behind only a few spurs to access local industries from the surrounding mainlines.
Inspiration for your station: Stations are a big part of most modeller's layouts, there are big ones, small ones, recreations of real ones and completely made up ones, but whichever type of station you have created, there is always plenty that you can do to develop it and help it become a centrepiece on your layout. There are many larger or more obvious features you can add to your station to make it more interesting and imposing such as: a footbridge, canopy, station signs, platform lamps, fencing and benches. These OO gauge items are all very worthy additions to a station, but what you may not realise, is how many types and styles there are to choose from in model form, so resist picking the first one that you see, it's always worth researching ranges and offerings to find the one that will not only 'do', but that you love!
And
don't forget the lesser considered details, it is these that provide realism to your station such as
clocks and
baggage carts, many bigger stations have
platform signals,
underpasses instead of bridges and
car parks all just waiting to be modelled. But there is one thing all stations big and small have, and that is
people, they are the soul of every station (apart from the trains that is) so don't forget to model them!
