Ken Sallaway sent us some pictures of his layout. He explains: "The structures are made of card from cereal boxes, the mountain from strips of card from appliance boxes, held in place with lots of newspaper held in place with hot glue & pva glue." Click on the images to see more pictures in full size and read how the castle was built.
Richard Snow sent us some pictures of his modelling with the following explanations: "Having bought train stuff from you, I thought you might be interested in how I fill some of my spare time. Instead of smashing all the boxes, I have made a number of bits of them into model buildings. The latest is copied from a picture on page 39 of The Railway Magazine and the 4 pictures below follow the sequence from conception to completion. It is far from commercial standards but as a bit of fun and produces useful free buildings for my grandsons' layouts and even my own, it is good enough and 'green'." This week in history - On the 26th of December 1917, United States President Wilson used the Federal Possession and Control Act to nationalise America's railroad network for the remainder of World War I. Two days later on the 28th of December, the US Railroad Administration formally took control of all American railroads.
After a few days feasting on fine food and festivity you may well be thinking about getting out and about in the great outdoors (or modelling it at least, after all, it's cold outside you know!).
There are many outdoor activities you can model, in real life many people turn to the great outdoors for recreational activities of all kinds such as trekking, dog walking or a game of golf or football, some even go as far as river punting or Morris dancing.
Camping is another popular outdoor activity, with groups and organisations such as the Brownies or Girl Guides indulging in a spot of recreational fun as well as individuals fancying a night out under the stars. A camp scene doesn't have to be recreational either, have you ever considered a military camp on your layout? That would give you plenty of opportunities to add details such as barbed wire or sandbags to create atmosphere. A camping/camp scene could be just the thing to add a cost-effective but interesting diorama to your layout and there are numerous models to choose from to help you construct a perfect campsite.
Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.
