Hello,
Don't forget to read our latest
modelling tips located at the bottom to the
bottom of the newsletter.
With an extended weekend on the horizon, this is great time to start a new project or plan to complete an existing one. To do so, you are likely to need tools.
Most modellers collect their tools over a lifetime. But there are different tools coming out all the time with modellers in mind, to make our life easier that it is worth revisiting the subject every now and then.
The following tools from Master Tools, which is a subsidiary of plastic kit manufacturer Trumpeter, may be a bit lacklustre in their packaging but the tools are very good and answer some very interesting needs.
The decal tray is one of those such tools, made of plastic and easy to use just add water and decal. No more struggling to fish out the transfer from a bowl of water.
Shaped sandpaper handles: these shaped pieces of plastic will help you to sand/rub down. Just add the self-adhesive sandpaper to the desired contour on one of the plastic shapes.
Most modellers will have a vice or two in the collection of tools, but this one is very low, meaning you can easily access the top of the item. It would benefit even the most experienced modeller, ideal for really close up work.
Their line engraver is ideal for scoring plastic or balsa wood and easier than trying to score with a knife.
If you need to create rivet lines for that model aircraft or battleship then look no further as Master Tools have the answer with this rivet maker, with three different size wheels to create rivets with different spacing.
When you are looking to bend those photo etched parts, rather than just bend and hope for the best, try one of these photo etched part benders. They will give you accurate results and very neat 90 degrees angles.
There is even a mould cleaning tool for removing all the flash from the seams of your plastic kit, so no more trying to clean up the edges with the blade of your knife and risking loosing chunks of plastic in the process.
Send us an email or give us a call to check
availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As
usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will
order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the
manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most
suppliers.
Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!
Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm and Sunday 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
