Layout inspiration - Cameos in OO gauge - 28mm tanks and figures - modelling tipsHello,

Rob Watts sent us these pictures of his layout "PEN-GOS" following the newsletter talking about taxis.

He also sent the following explanation: "This one is one I particularly like with the workmen repairing a light, the passenger putting a letter in the post box and the passengers getting on the bus.

I have also at the front, behind the parked cars have a small hedged area of grass with the name PEN - GOS in flowers growing.

The model has many individual scenes: a group of cub scouts camping out, a vintage car and steam fayre, a track gang standing clear of the line and many birds all around perched on roofs and a seagull nesting in a plant pot on the platform. There is also a full wedding in progress at the church with a real wedding bell peel from a bluetooth speaker in the spire. A steam organ at the fayre is playing music and woodland birds can be heard in the trees."

Don't forget to read our modelling tips! They have been moved to the bottom of the newsletter.

Busch are a renowned company for making quality model railway accessories. In the past the pictures on the box were a bit ambiguous, they have now included a picture of the contents of each of their new kits.

The latest range is what they call "action scenes". They contain everything needed to create a small cameo on your layout in OO gauge.

The first one as you can see is someone trimming trees. Is he the head gardener at a stately home? a grounds man at the park? or just a man in his back garden? The possibilities are endless!

If you decide on a park grounds man why not add this one to your park scene: a giant chess set to entertain during the long summer evenings:

Or if chess isn't your thing, how about table tennis? This one would be also suitable in a campground:

If your layout has a more industrial theme, you probably need a worker moving barrels:

Now, here is something that will be suitable for most road in the country: a road repair kit. They are self-adhesive tarmac patches to add to your road to give it that continuously dug up look.

And last but not least for those of you who are a bit more risqué, how about a couple of bikini clad ladies cleaning a Ford Mustang? They are probably doing a fundraising event!

If you are into wargaming in 28mm (1/56) or just making dioramas, then have a look at these new releases from American company Rubicon Models. These are very well tooled and are nicely detailed some models come with options to choose which variant of vehicle you can build.
Such as the Panzer IV Ausf D/E (early version), the picture on the box shows the desert livery:

Also, in desert camouflage the Kubelwagen type 82 these were used in the desert and Europe. This was the Germans answer to the American Jeep.

If you are fighting in the desert you will need a rugged truck such as the Chevrolet 30cwt truck which were used by the long-range desert group (LRDG) as well as the Special air service (SAS) throughout the war.

If Europe or Russia theatres of war are more your thing here is another variant of the Panzer IV Ausf J. This is a mid version, again well detailed, with the option of photo etched parts for the skirt.

With the tanks on the ground they need support against air attack and what better way than with a Flakvierling 38? This anti-aircraft gun can be made deployed or on tow, it also comes with a choice of barrels for the modeller and the wargamer.

If you fancy your anti-aircraft gun to be more mobile then the Flakpanzer IV "Wirbelwind" is the answer. It is an anti-aircraft platform on a PanzerIV chassis and comes with a crew of four in a big box.

Some of the Rubicon kits come with no figures while others come with two or more. To strengthen your ranks there are separate packs of figures you can get, such as the German heavy machine gun team or German halftrack gunner. You can also boost your tank crews with these American soviet or German troops
