Hello,

The wait is over! The latest Die Waffenkammer models have now arrived and are wonderful. If you do not know about them, please note they are high quality resin cast WWII models in 28mm (1/56). They are designed for wargaming but can easily be the centrepiece of any diorama. The latest models include the DUKW, Bedford QLD truck and TOG 2. You can click here to access the full range or here is a small selection to whet your appetite:

The new year is the time to make a few resolutions. One that come often is to improve painting skills. After all, this is a well needed skill to do modelling, be it with model railway, plastic kits or wargames.

So in 2019, make the decision to mix your paint more. A lot more. Paint is pigment is suspension, so to get the perfect finish you are after you need to make sure the pigment is fully mixed with the liquid. Shaking the bottle or tin for 5 minutes (and we mean real minutes) is a good start. However you can improve the efficiency of your shaking by adding a mixing ball in the can or bottle. Here is a set of about 70 stainless steel balls which do not rust and will help you mix better:

One of the best tool for painting may be an airbrush: they allow very fine layers of paint to cover models and make it easy to do weathering effects such as mud and rust.

For beginners (or more advanced users wanting a second kit), we suggest the following airbrush set. The airbrush itself is double action, meaning you control the flow of paint and the amount of air used. The set comes with a small compressor powerful enough to do the job but not too strong so you do not blow the models away. It also includes a carry case, making it a breathe to store when not in use. And best of all: we can get parts for it. That means if you ever lose an o-ring or bend the needle while cleaning it, you do not need a new airbrush but can simply replace the part.

If starting with an airbrush, we recommend practising making straight lines. This will help your hand understand how to operate the main button and when to start and stop spraying.

Paint used in an airbrush needs to be the right consistency, similar to milk, but if are new to it, simply get yourself a few bottles of Vallejo Model Air paint: they are ready to be used in an airbrush and are acrylic, so they do not smell and dry quickly. We also recommend some thinner as well as some cleaner. Note for military modellers: please note the Model Air range include RLM, RAL and USAF colours to name a few.
