We all know the benefits to be had from keeping our model railway locomotives and rolling stock lubricated: smooth running, no squeaks, less wear on the gears and bearings, and potentially more reliable pickup of power from the wheels to the motor or decoder in locomotives. In damp environments, oil can provide some protection against corrosion of metal parts.

But not everybody is aware that some oils can harm some types of paints and plastics used in model railways, and can be too heavy for use with the relatively delicate model railway gears and bearings.

Here is a selection of various lubricant, oils and greases including the workbench pack, all of which are safe to use on plastic, metal and paint. They exist in two ranges: standard and premium for a total of a dozen different types. Please note that each product is fully detailed on our website, including recommended use and caution notices.

Sometimes an engine keeps derailing while there is nothing wrong with the track. This can be caused by an incorrect back to back setting (the distance between the wheels). We do have handy tools to check them for you, both in OO gauge and N gauge and also in P4 and EM. And they also do roller gauges in case you want to check the track itself. Click here for the full range.

OO9 is a great scale with the space saving aspects of N gauge, the details of OO gauge and some quirky and unusual models. Take for instance these three coaches, based on the real ones at the Glynn Valley Railway.

Finally, we never have too many flowers and grass tufts on a layout. Warlord Games is mostly unknown from railway modellers as they focus on wargaming items, however they are also doing scenic products which would be at home on any layout. The big advantage is that they are different from the usual brands. Here is a small selection while you can see the full range here.

Finally, just a quick reminder gift vouchers are available all year round. If you are looking for a present for someone or a beloved one does not know what to give you for your birthday, gift vouchers are the answer. Simply contact us for details.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.
