Hello,
If you look around you, you will notice grass is everywhere. Grass
can be used for various things: to base some wargaming figures, to
create a golf course, to make a field, for a swamp or even to "bed" a
building into the ground.
Peco has in its range a various static grasses as well as the applicator. As you probably know, static grass is made of nylon. The applicator creates an electrical charge making the fibres stand up when applied to the layout. The result is very realistic grass. Grasses are available in several lengths: 1mm, 2mm, 4mm and 6mm as well as numerous shades ranging from hay to spring grass to pasture green to dead grass. The range contains more than 30 types of grass!
The Peco applicator is very easy and safe to use as well as being affordable. For large layouts we still recommend the Grass Master from Noch as it is more powerful however the Peco applicator will be enough for most needs. Obviously this is suitable for any scale, simply choose the grass size relevant to your needs.
Please note if you require taller grass, we have in stock Noch's 12mm grass. Simply click this link to see their range.
To help you understand how tall each grass is, here is a small chart. It means if you use 4mm grass in OO gauge, it represents grass which is 304mm tall in real life.
Grass size |
|||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1mm | 2mm | 4mm | 6mm | 12mm | |
N gauge (1/148) |
150mm | 300mm | 600mm |
900mm | 1800mm |
HO gauge (1/87) |
87mm | 174mm | 348mm | 522mm | 1044mm |
OO gauge (1/76) |
76mm | 152mm | 304mm | 456mm | 912mm |
28mm (1/56) |
56mm | 112mm | 224mm | 336mm |
672mm |
O gauge (1/43) |
43mm | 86mm | 172mm | 258mm | 516mm |
As a rough guide, 600mm is about knee high, 1000mm will mean about waist high and 1800mm is the size of a man. Please note these numbers are just indicative as the grass will never be 100% straight standing.
And now for a few pictures:
Peco also offers a range of 12 types of tufts. They are self-adhesive and will help create a realistic effect, while "planting" a building on
your layout or even on a derelict railway line to represent some growth
between sleepers. The flowers will be at home in the middle of fields
or in any back garden. The tufts can also be used in the middle of
fields to represent irregular growth.
