Hello,

Before we start, we would like to remind you that all images in this newsletter are links that you can click on, sending you to pages with more details on each item including full description and sometimes videos. If anything is still unclear, please do contact us.

Water is always an impressive feature, be it a small pond, a river, a canal or even a sea scene. However, it is sometimes tricky to get the right result. Woodland Scenics has come up with the answer with an extensive range of items specifically designed to create natural looking expanses of water.

Each item is fully described on our website and the description usually includes videos showing you how to use each product and illustrating the end result.

First, use an undercoat to create the right base colour. There are several available and each one of them has been designed to match the water colour scale "Forel-Ule" meaning when you show it to your friends you can tell them "it is not any deep blue colour, it is a match for the official Forel-Ule scale!" Here are a few examples:

Then select your water tint. Tints can be mixed and the end result will obviously depend on the base colour:

Pour some water mix. It is available in murky colour or clear:

Finally, can you add some highlights in the shape of ripples or waves, using specifically formulated products:

Once your water is all set, Woodland Scenics recommends "dust dabber" to keep it clean. This is a special tool that grabs dirt and dust without scrubbing, hence making sure you do not damage anything. Obviously you can also use it to clean other scenery items, buildings or even rolling stock.

If you like World War II figures and vehicles, you must look at the Plastic Soldier Company range. This British manufacturer produces very good boxsets in 1/72 scale (20mm). Each box will usually contain 3 vehicles, allowing you to create a fleet in no time. They are easy built, meaning they have only a few parts and can be put together quickly while still providing very accurate models.

The range is rather large with 40 boxes available and more being released every few months. You can see the whole range on our website or here is a small selection of our favourites:

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street and for as long as want on the Esplanade. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm and Sunday 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
