A bit of light can make a
huge difference to any layout but it can also create a focal point on
smaller diorama. Here is a selection of items which are fitted with LED lights. LED have got the advantage of not creating any heat, so they are safe near card or plastic buildings,
as well as close to scatter. They are easy to fit, most of them simply
require connecting to a 12V power source (an old controller will work
nicely) and some simply need fitting a decal on or quick assembly. If
requiring soldering, a quick and easy alternative is to use Wire Glue to connect the wires to the LED.
The examples below are OO gauge and you can click on any image for full details.
Finally, two items which any railway modeller should have. The first one is a rolling road. This allows you to perform the run-in of engines without the need of a loop. Any length of track will do. You can also use it to troubleshoot issues and do the maintenance of you locomotives. The rolling road we like is from DCC Concept and come as a pack compatible with all small gauges: N, OO, HO, EM, P4, simply change the rollers to use the spacers relevant to your scale. This is economical and very practical.
The second item is Liquid Gravity.
This is a bottle of tiny balls that can be used to add weight to kits,
wagons, coaches, engines... This increases the traction and hence the running performance.
As they are tiny balls, they can easily be added exactly where needed
as they will fit in most spaces. Once happy with their location, they
can then be glued using any superglue. Obviously they can also be used
on boats or planes if you need to adjust the centre of gravity.
Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.
Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street and for as long as want on the Esplanade. So no excuse not to come and visit us!
Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm and Sunday 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
