Hello,
Everyone needs paint. Whether it is to make a figure look wonderful, to paint a railway kit or simply to touch up a damaged item.
For modelling, there are two main types of paint: enamel and acrylic.
Enamels are the traditional type, which you clean with White Spirit. They are made of pigments in a solvent. This gives them a rather long drying time, which means you have plenty of opportunity to correct mistakes and blend colours together. Here is a small selection of enamel Railmatch paints (colours below are malachite green, LNER Darlington green, LMS bauxite, Midland Railway red, frame dirt and warning yellow). Click on any of them for full details or you can also see the full range here.
Acrylics are water based so you clean your brushes with water. They are also odourless and dry a lot faster than acrylic. They are great for day to day jobs and if you to use the models quickly. Once again for model railway, the Railmatch range is large (and can be seen here). We show you worn tarmac, dark brick, new tarmac, new timber, concrete and stone.
For figures and buildings, you probably want a larger range, this is where Vallejo shines. Their paints have got great coverage meaning you need less coats. The range is huge and include great colours like "sunny skin tone" or "dark skin tone" as well as unusual ones like turquoise. They will suit most needs including military colours. Here are a few randomly chosen:
If you do not know what to paint, we can suggest something! Firefore Games has a range of high quality 28mm figures, suitable for the medieval period. We are talking knights, cavalry and infantry. They are historically accurate, well detailed and can be used for very existing dioramas or games. Click here to see the range or click the pictures below for some examples.
Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.
Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street and for as long as want on the Esplanade. So no excuse not to come and visit us!
Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm and Sunday 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
