News from your model railway shop - 12th June 2014

Hello,

With so many ready to run wagons available nowadays, you will be forgiven to think there is no reason to build a wagon from a kit. However, this is sometimes the only way to get a specific variant of a wagon. Usually kits provide a lot more details than ready to run wagons. And another good reason to make your own wagons is because it is great fun. They are usually quite easy to build and as such very satisfying.

Cambrian Models is a manufacturer of such models in OO gauge. With more than 100 differents wagons available starting at under £5, there is surely something you will like. Here are photographs or their Dogfish, Catfish, Mermaid and Sturgeon.

In N gauge, Peco is the brand you require for wagons kits. They have a wide range and once again, they are quite easy to make. Here are a few examples.

Sometimes when we receive an item we are surprised as it does not really look like what we were expecting. We had such a moment this week with the low relief gasometer from Bachmann. The picture looks impressive but it does not do it justice. The real thing is even more impressive. Next time you are visiting us, have a look and tell us what you think.

Finally, if you need a very great looking station in N gauge, we may have the answer in the form of the Grand Central buildings from Graham Farish. They will be a feature on any layout as you can see on these pictures.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. And the car park in York Road is still free every Tuesday from 1pm so you can spend the afternoon with us. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
