Hello,

We have been busy lately adding capabilities to our website, especially if you are not located in the UK. It means you can now display prices in US Dollars or euros (simply change the currency on the top right corner) and you can also register on the website and place orders from mots countries in Europe, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Please do tell your friends! You can always contact us if anything is unclear or does not work as expected.

One of the joys of modelling is to make things from scratch. Draw (or adapt) some plans, source the relevant materials and see your creation take place over a period of a few hours or days or weeks or months.

Nothing is impossible when you do it like that. This is a great opportunity to learn lots: how to use tools, how materials behave, architectural skills, observation skills. Yes, this is sometimes hard work but it is very rewarding.

And obviously this can be used in any scale and on whatever subject matters you like, be it an N gauge building or a 1:35 AFV model or even a sci-fi model.

A good example is this layout from Laurie Calvert using lots of different materials and combining various techniques. Click on any of the picture to be taken to our Facebook page where Laurie himself has annotated each picture.

Now that you are suitably inspired, you probably need the raw material. You can go for wood, metal, card or plastic. Plastic is usually considered the best compromise: easy to glue and cut, enjoyable to paint and strong enough to build most structures.

Did you know we carry a wide range of plastic shapes? They are available in packs or in singles and include : rods, open web trusses, deep channels (U), Z bars, angles, I beams, square rods, square tubes, H columns, T sections, channels (C), half rounds, stairs, stair rails, hand rails, ladders, quarter rounds and we have probably forgotten half of them!

Here is a selection in pictures. As always click on any picture to get more details and the full list of nearly 350 shapes and sheets is also available by clicking here.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street and for as long as want on the Esplanade. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm and Sunday 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
