Weathering with mud, rust and other effects - Modified N gauge church kit Hello,
Following our question about Facebook in last week's newsletter, most of you have confirmed having no issue to access the images we post of Facebook. If you do not have an account you can still access the content, there will simply be a message staying on your screen suggesting you join Facebook. So for the time being we are going to continue using it but obviously if a better idea comes up, we will happily try it!
Stephen Finn sent us a couple of pictures of the N gauge Kestrel Design church he built. He modified it slightly to relocate the porch to the side where he thought it would make more sense. As usual, you can click on the picture to access the other images and the full discussion.
Weathering is the art of making things look old and used with rusty patches, stains, mud, etc. This usually involves using powders, washes and other paints to create the end result. AK Interactive is a company which specialises in such items and caters for the needs of most modellers: aircrafts, railways, boats, armour... Their range is quite large with single items as well as box sets. The quality is very good with a high level of pigmentation and nice textures, and they are frequently recommended by professional modellers. Here is a selection. Simply click on an image to get the full details:
One of their most exciting product is the metal burnishing fluid: it will react with any metal part (track for instance) and will burnish it, removing all shine.
ModelMates is another manufacturer of such weathering products. Or rather "was" as they have decided to focus on their core business which is the film industry. Now, our belief is that if it is good enough to be used on the set of Dr Who, it is good enough for a layout or diorama! Please note we have limited stock available (and we cannot post the sprays). You can see the full range by clicking here or simply select from the few examples below:
Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.
Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!
Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm and Sunday 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
