We hope Christmas Day is a wonderful day for you, shared with loved ones.
Please note we will reopen only after the public holidays, that is on Wednesday 28th of December.
And while you are writing on your diary, you can also add the X-Mass Destruction day organised by the South Wight Wargamers Club in Sandown. It will take place on Thursday 29th of December and the day will start at 10am and will finish late at night (or early morning depending how you measure those things). Expect large tables full of figures and several epic games. Well worth a visit even just to see massive amounts of figures.
The club hosts weekly games of Saga, X-Wing, Dreadball, Bolt Action, Warhammer 40k and lots of other board games. This is held in Sandown from 7.30pm till late. You can get full details on the weekly meetings on their website at http://southwightwargamers.weebly.com/
Now back to model railway modelling...
The latest issue of the "Railway Magazine Guide to Modelling" has arrived. As last time, this is free and is available for collection from the shop. You can also get it from our website (you pay only for postage). In this month's edition: locomotives and wagons reviews, choosing the best scale, 3D printing (written by Islander Matt Wickham) and a lot more. Click on the pictures below for sample pages and more details.
The Annual Railway Modeller is the sister publication to Railway Modeller and features 124 pages of content: 70 years of Peco, steam on the Underground, the end of Southern Railway, behind the scene at Heljan, designs of signal boxes, etc. Well worth the price and full of reference information you will keep.
If you are making the most of your free time during this festive period, you are likely to build a few wagons as they are great fun and you can always have more on any layout. Once built you probably want to add a few numbers and letters for extra realism. After all, no wagon would be allowed to run without markings!
Woodland Scenics makes a full range of letters and numbers in various sizes, fonts and colours. They are suitable not only for rolling stock but also for signs. They also do stripes suitable for lining. Here are a few examples:
HMRS (The Historical Model Railway Society) produces its own range of transfers based on historical information. Each sheet is specific to a region and is packed with enough transfers to do tons of projects. Here are some examples for SR and LBSC, LMS and LNER.
Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.
Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!
Upstairs Downstairs is this week open Wednesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm.
