Hello,

We are happy to announce that our website is now fully secured using a technology called SSL. This encrypts everything you do on the website as well as anything you will type in. This is the same technology used on banking websites and it means you can order online from us safely, in the knowledge that no-one can intercept your name, address and payment details or even know which products you looked at.

In case you are wondering, before this change, only your payment details were encrypted (like on most other websites). However, we believe you are entitled to an extra level of safety and privacy online. You can check this is working on your web browser: it will display a green padlock next to the website address.

You can now access the website there: https://www.trainshop.co.uk . Please do report any issue you may be experiencing so we can fix them.

When creating a train layout, we are usually constrained by the available space. Unless you have a spare room (or even a space that was purpose built), you have to squeeze the layout in some tight space. Creativity can then be an advantage.

In N gauge, this is not too much of an issue: a door fitted with castors can simply slide under a bed. In OO, this requires a bit more thinking if you want more than a small end to end layout.

A gentleman approached us with the idea of fitting a layout in the space created by a Victorian window bay. We gave it some thoughts and created a scale mockup. Full details and dimensions are on our Facebook page. Feel free to comment and provide suggestions. Click on the picture for full details and to join the discussion.

A bit of light can make a huge difference to any layout but it can also create a focal point on smaller diorama. Here is a selection of items which are fitted with LED lights. LED have got the advantage of not creating any heat, so they are safe near card or plastic buildings, as well as close to scatter. They are easy to fit, most of them simply require connecting to a 12V power source (an old controller will work nicely) and some simply need fitting a decal on or quick assembly. If requiring soldering, a quick and easy alternative is to use Wire Glue to connect the wires to the LED.

The examples below are OO gauge and you can click on any image for full details.
