Hello,

The Scale Model Show will take place this coming Saturday, 19th of September in Sandown. It will feature various types of modelling from model railway to boats to aircrafts to figures to a lot more! The event takes place in the hall of Sandown Methodist Church in York Road, from 10am till 4pm. Well worth attending if you have not done so in the previous years. And if you have, we probably do not need to convince you!

We have mentioned in the past the advantages of OO9: all the space saving of N gauge but with the details of OO gauge, as well as something different from the standard model railway. Did you know, you can combine both OO9 and OO on the same layout? When we say combine, we really mean it: you can use dual gauge track. All sorts of points as well as flexitrack are available. Here are a few examples as to what they look like alongside the chemically weathered fishplates and the power clips. As usual click on any picture for further details.

Motorising your points is not that difficult as the options to do so are multiple. You can either use a standard point motor, going under the baseboard or a surface mounted one which will fit nicely next to the track. For more advanced needs, you will also find points motors with built-in switches (ideal to display a light on a control panel) or even slow action point motors: they take a few seconds to move the blades, just like the real thing! The slow action motors we recommend are from Tillig as they are reliable and a lot cheaper than the other slow action motors. Click on any picture for more information.

Fancy building an easy kit during the weekend or over the course of an evening? Kits from Dapol are ideal for this: they are the same as the old Kitmaster / Airfix kits but with slightly better plastic. They are not over-detailed but a decent result can easily be had with a bit of painting, and the best news is that they are quick and fun to build. They are ideal of you lack the experience or confidence to build plastic kits. The range comprises about 90 kits, here is a small selection.

Finally, have you checked our Facebook page lately? If not, you are probably missing out!

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
