Hello,

We regularly see people who complain their significant other is not eager to join them and share their passion for modelling. We think we have found the solution! You can see it on our Facebook page.

Tools are very important when modelling and we have already covered the subject in this newsletter  on a couple of occasions. This time we would like to introduce you to tools which are a bit different. Some of them you may not even know exist. Click on any picture to get more details on the item.

First of all is probably our favourite: the microbrush. This tiny brush is the size of a pin head (slightly larger versions are also available). You can bend the brush in order to reach corners and deposit the right amount of glue. They are also suitable for weathering powders, paint and anywhere where you need to drop very small amount of liquid or powder. If you have not seen them yet, ask for them next time you are coming to Sandown! Or if you prefer, we keep in stock syringes, conveniently packed in a set of 2 syringes and 3 tips of various thicknesses.

Then, we are onto glass fibre pencils. Available in two sizes (2 and 4mm), they allow you to burnish and polish most surfaces. They are great to clean white-metal kits before glueing or painting, and to remove a bit of flash on plastic kits. Refills are available for both sizes.

Small bits, especially round ones, are difficult to hold with tweezers as tweezers have a tendency to twist and the parts come flying all over the place. The Pick N Place tool is designed to provide a solution: it has a small tip covered in slightly adhesive "paste". This will hold any small bit in place but will once glued you will easily remove the tool.

Finally, two items which any railway modeller should have. The first one is a rolling road. This allows you to perform the run-in of engines without the need of a loop. Any length of track will do. You can also use it to troubleshoot issues and do the maintenance of you locomotives. The rolling road we like is from DCC Concept and come as a pack compatible with all small gauges: N, OO, HO, EM, P4, simply change the rollers to use the spacers relevant to your scale. This is economic and very practical.

The second item is Liquid Gravity. This is a bottle of tiny balls that can be used to add weight to kits, wagons, coaches, engines... This increases the traction and hence the running performance. As they are tiny balls, they can easily be added exactly where needed as they will fit in most spaces. Once happy with their location, they can then be glued using any superglue. Obviously they can also be used on boats or planes if you need to adjust the centre of gravity.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
