This week in history
On 7th April 1957, New York's Trams (Trolley Cars) run for the very last time.
If you're modelling British railways in OO gauge, you might be interested in the Lima Class 92 "Beethoven" finished in two-tone grey. It is in excellent condition with immaculate bodywork and runs beautifully with its characteristic Ringfield motor sound. For those who fancy a bit of Western Region flavour, the Lima Class 52 Western 'Western Enterprise' in BR desert sand comes complete with three maroon coaches, making it a ready-to-run train set. If you prefer the more common sights of BR's motive power, the Lima Class 47 "The Commonwealth Spirit" in BR blue is worth considering, and it also comes with three BR coaches comprising a Mk1 BSK, Mk2 Corridor First, and Mk1 Buffet, a proper mixed rake that's ready for your layout.
In N gauge, if you're after British steam motive power, the Bachmann Class 4MT with BR2 tender in BR lined green comes factory weathered and is DCC ready with an 8-pin socket. For those modelling American railroads in N gauge, there's a set of three Bev-Bel boxcars representing the New York Central System, all in excellent condition in their original boxes. If Continental railways are more your cup of tea, the Brawa Class BR 234 diesel locomotive set offers three engines (one motorised and two dummies) in 'as new' condition, ideal for recreating those impressive multiple-unit diesel formations seen on European railways.
About the town in N gauge
One of the greatest benefits of modelling in
N gauge is the amount of scenery you can fit onto your baseboard. Modelling in N
gauge also means you have more choice when deciding what type and size
of buildings you wish to feature in your towns and villages. But if you
thought the gift of space was ironic because the range of N gauge
buildings is limited, then think again because there are
plenty of inspiring models to choose from. Whether you are building in plastic or card you will find interesting models you can use to
create convincing dioramas. If modelling in
plastic you can discover buildings such as
Gaugemaster Kestrel Designs' fire station, industrial unit, converted warehouse/townhouse and larger complexes such as a full
brewery. Just
don't forget the glue to build the kits!

If you are modelling in card, then you have even more choice,
Metcalfe caters particularly well for the N gauge modeller with kits portraying
industrial units, fire and petrol stations, pubs and shops to name but a few. It's fair to say that
N gauge is no longer a niche choice for modellers.
