Hello,

If you are on the Isle of Wight next week, here is an event you should considering attending: Sandown Historical Association is organising a talk on the Bembridge Branch Railway. The speaker will be Dr Alan Doe.

This will take place on Wednesday 27th of May at 7.30pm at Sandown Methodist Church in York Road (PO36 8ET). Everyone is welcome.

Still talking about the Isle of Wight, we are happy to report our first exclusive wagons in N gauge will be with us over the next few weeks. Following the success of the wagons in OO gauge, we have commissioned Peco to make the exact same wagons in N gauge. Quality is what you expect from the manufacturer with ample detail.

They will be available as singles for less than £9 or as rakes of 4 for £33.50. Please note quantities are limited so we advise you contact us to reserve some. Samples will be with us later this week with all wagons being delivered to us between June and mid-July. Here are a few pictures. As usual click on each picture for more details.

While we are talking about N gauge, you know how fond we are of the scale, as it offers great possibilities for layout in smaller space. As the scale is roughly half of OO, the same layout takes only a quarter of the space!

However, some people may find it a bit fiddly but there is an alternative combining the best of both world: OO9! This is narrow gauge OO, meaning you use OO scale for everything (buildings, figures, scenery, ...) but with track that is the same width as N gauge. You benefit from the space saving of N gauge but without comprising on the details and while being to reuse all your existing OO gauge buildings, vehicles and figures.

Narrow gauge is not for everyone, it has a different look from mainline but this can add to its appeal. Typically, you will find some in quarries or on short privatised lines.

We have received a delivery from Minitrains this week, with engines running so smoothly and quietly you may not even realise they are on. They also offer train packs including an engine and some wagons or coaches. This has been the opportunity to start adding OO9 on our website. Apart from Minitrains, we also stock Roco engines and Peco rolling stock (Lynton & Barnstaple) and track, including flexitrack. Please note we have not had time to add all the OO9 we have in stock on the website, simply contact us if what you require is not shown.

Finally, let me remind you we are always happy to advise on any subject (try to keep it modelling or train related though!). So if you are unsure whether a certain scale is for you, how to create a gradient, how to motorise your points or what the best approach is to paint and weather a kit, simply ask.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
