Hello,

Amongst the smaller suppliers we stock, one of the favourites is Deluxe Materials. This chemical British company specialises in creating solutions to long standing problems. As most of their products are truly amazing and suitable for all scales and types of modelling (from model railways to miniatures to plastic kit building), we thought you deserved to know them better. Simply click on any picture for more details about each item.

Probably the largest part of their range is made of the glues. Roket Card Glue is the one to use with kits from Metcalfe and SuperQuick. The glue dries clear, is fast to act and is not stringy. This is a lot better than contact adhesive such as UHU. If plastic is more your thing, then you must try Plastic Magic. This is not technically a glue but a solvent, which means it "melts" the plastic and fuse it together. The new design bottle cannot be tipped over and comes with two handy brushes. Please note this will glue most types of plastic including styrene, ABS, PVC, acrylic, etc.

Then we got a range of cyanoacrylates. You may know this type of glue under the most common name of "superglue". They will stick most things together and are strong. In order to give you maximum flexibility, Deluxe Materials' come in three "flavours" with various setting time from 1-5 seconds to 10-20 seconds.

Sticking clear parts has always been a challenge as clear parts tend to "mist" with traditional glues. This is caused by the fumes which damage the surface of the clear plastic. The solution is to use an odourless glue or even a dedicated glue such as Glue 'n' Glaze. The latter can even be used to create windows itself: it is very think and can be dragged to fill an opening.

And let us finish with some essential items which you may have never heard of. First is Perfect Plastic Putty: it is a water based putty that dries clear and can be sanded and painted. If you have ever needed to fill gaps in a model, you definitely need some of this filler on hand. Then, we have Tacky Wax. This allows you to affix figures and other small items in place. However the was never dries and can be (re-)moved at a later date. This is also useful to hold temporarily screws to a screwdriver or plastic bits to a blade. Finally, we have kept Liquid Gravity for last. It is a bottle which contains thousands of tiny heavy balls. They can be poured inside a model or even glued underneath it to weigh it down and move the centre of gravity. It replaces lead in a non toxic and easier to use format.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. And till Easter you can also park on the Esplanade for as long as you want! So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
