Hello,

We have a new card machine in the shop. This wonderful new piece of equipment has got a full colour display that is used to display the amount in black and white but who are we to question these things?

Also as you will see on the picture below, when initially installed it suffered from a minor restriction: it would only accept cards as long as they were NOT from Mastercard or Visa.

Anyway, this has now been corrected, so feel free to come and visit us if you want to see this new card machine. Obviously you can take the opportunity to have a look at the rest of the shop as well!

One area that is often overlooked is paint. After all, paint is just pigments in suspension so surely there is not much difference between brands? This is a wrong assumption as they vary greatly.

Probably one of the best currently available is the range from Vallejo. They are acrylic based which means they can be cleaned with water, are odourless and will dry quicker than enamels. However they are specially formulated for modelling: very highly pigmented (which means usually one coat is enough to get good coverage) and designed to adhere perfectly to plastics and metals but strong enough to be used on any other surface.

They come in plastic eyedrop bottles, making life easier: easy to open, spill-proof and if you need 2 drops, you use only 2 drops!

The range is huge, covering all aspects of modelling, this week we are going to focus on Model Color, designed to be hand brushed. The range is very large with 223 colours but here are a few examples. Click on any colour to be taken to the full range. Please note as they are acrylic we can post them to you.

All paints from Vallejo dry to a matte finish  however you can use a few drops of various "mediums" to alter the finish to gloss or even glazing. Other useful mediums include a retardant which will delay the drying time, giving you more time to blend colours together or create a "wet on wet" effect. We can also mention the crackle medium as well as the chipping medium, both of them allowing you to create very nice weathered effects.

Vallejo also does a large range of pigments. They are pure pigments that you can use as weathering powders. They are cheaper than other brands for a larger container and their range is huge, giving you the perfect choice.

Finally, if you are painting figures or making a diorama, you probably need a base terrain. Vallejo offers a range of textures that you can simply spread with a brush or painting knife (or even a spare off-cut of plastic). Each texture is already coloured but can be over painted. Once, again, all the usual textures are available, making your life a lot easier.

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
