As you know, at Upstairs Downstairs, we are committed to the modelling cause in general and the model railway cause in particular.
Max has gone one step further with his latest haircut. In order to protect the faint-hearted, we are not putting any picture of this in the newsletter but you can see them on our Facebook page.
Still on our Facebook page, you will see a few pictures of the latest O gauge engine from Dapol: the Isle of Wight Terrier "Fishbourne" as used in the 30s. This is a beautiful model with huge amount of details and very cheap for O gauge. Even if you are not into larger scales, this will make a great display unit. We have it in stock but not yet on our website. Click on any of the pictures below for more details.
While on our Facebook page, you will also be able to appreciate the weathering Stuart Stevens has done to his Class 37. This is great and inspiring work and even better once you realise this is N gauge. Once again, simply click on the pictures to be taken there.
The last announcement this week is the Model Show taking place in Sandown next Saturday (17th of September). It is organised by the IOW Scale Model Club and will feature a wide range of modelling displays as well as a table for children to have a go at building small plastic kits. The event takes place at St Johns' Church Hall in St Johns' Road in Sandown. If you are using a sat-nav, the postcode is PO36 8BL. It starts at 10am till 4pm and will be spread across two rooms featuring model railway, dollshouse, plastic kits, figures painting, etc.
Peco has released a set of static grass as well as the applicator. As you probably know, static grass is made of nylon. The applicator creates an electrical charge making the fibres stand up when applied to the layout. The result is very realistic grass. Grasses are available in several lengths: 2mm, 4mm and 6mm as well as numerous shades ranging from hay to spring grass to pasture green to dead grass. The applicator is very easy and safe to use as well as being affordable. For large layouts we still recommend the Grass Master from Noch as it is more powerful however the Peco applicator will be enough for most needs. Obviously this is suitable for any scale, simply chose the grass size relevant to your needs.
At the same time as the static grass, Peco has also released a range of tufts. They are self-adhesive and will help create a realistic effect, while "planting" a building on your layout or even on a derelict railway line to represent some growth between sleepers. The flowers will be at home in the middle of fields or in any back garden. The tufts can also be used in the middle of fields to represent irregular growth.
