Electricity is the future of the railway with more and more lines being electrified. In 2006, 40% (that is more than 3000 miles) of the rail network was electrified with 2/3 of it using an overhead system.
Until recently modelling OHLE (overhead line) has been an issue as there was no ready to use items suitable for UK models. This has all changed with Dapol releasing their system a couple of years ago and now Peco has created a brand new solution thanks to the help from catenary specialist Sommerfeldt.
The Dapol system is available for both OO gauge and N gauge. Their wires come in lengths from 138mm to 337mm. Please note that curves will require shorter wires in order to stay above the track. Click on any picture for full details.
The Peco system looks finer and is available only for OO gauge. The range include a starter set with masts, setup jig and detailed instructions, as well as wires from 200mm to a huge 500mm. As before, click on the pictures for full details.
If all this talk about electricity and rather modern equipment has left you in need of the good old times, what about the scented smoke oil from Deluxe Materials? Not only can it be used in smoke generators in engines or buildings but it can also be used to simply create the smell of steam in a room by using a few drops in a plate or anything absorbent. We are afraid we cannot get you to smell it directly on the email!
