Hello,

We have just posted on Facebook an article with lots of pictures of a building built and painted over the last couple of weeks. You may have seen Carole working on it if you visited us recently, so now you can see the end result! Simply click on the pictures for more details.

If you are a creative type of person, there is nothing more exciting than making your own building from scratch. However a little help is always welcome! In OO, one of the easiest system to use is Linka. They are rubber moulds helping you to cast walls, roofs, windows, etc. All the wall pieces then simply lock together using tabs. Use this with lightweight plaster such as Hydrocal and make wonderful buildings to your requirements in no time at all! If you are in need of inspiration, we can provide you with plans and full instructions for some typical buildings. Just ask for details.

Whether you are in N gauge or OO, the way electric trains work is the same: power goes from the controller to the track and to the train. If the track is not getting enough power, the train does not work reliably. This means testing your track delivers the correct voltage is crucial. Now we can go all technical with a multi-meter and probes and lots of other tools. However, there is a simpler alternative if you are not electrically minded: a track tester. Simply put it on the track and the colour of the lights tells you whether everything is OK. This device is compatible with OO, HO and N gauge. It works on analogue and DCC. The best thing? Its price. We have known people to get several at a time so they always have one with them. They also make for a great present. Click on the picture for details.

Gradients are always nice on a layout but what if your Flying Scotsman with 4 coaches refuses to tackle your small hill? The solution is called PowerBase. The concept is straightforward: steel plates are hidden under the track and a rare-earth (meaning very strong) magnet is fitted under the locomotive. This means the engine is pulled to the track, reducing slippage and improving its pulling capabilities. The sets exist in starter set with enough for a small gradient and a couple of engines and in value packs with twice the amount, that is 5m of plates and 12 magnets.
