Hello,

Adding a few lights can make a layout a lot more exciting and open a whole new world: the world of night! You can then have two different atmospheres: daylight and night-time.

However, we know many modellers you are a bit wary - or should we say scared? - of electrics and lights on a layout. Options are numerous from using grain of wheat bulbs to LED and the variety of switches available does not help.

Woodland Scenics has decided to tackle the problem by launching a range of easy to fit and easy to use lighting and related accessories. They are suitable whatever scale you are in and are not dependent on anything else. They will work as well, whether you currently use Hornby, Kato, Marklin, an old Tri-Ang system or even some 3-rail Hornby Dublo 3-rail!

As usual in the rest of this newsletter, simply click on any picture for more details. We have also tried to include lots of videos showing you how easy the system is.

The system is entirely modular, so you get only what you need. The first thing you require is a power supply. This is a very powerful one, able to power up to 50 lights

You then connect the power supply to a light hub. This will is the control system of your lights. This will allow you to switch them on and off, or even dimmer some of them. If needed additional hubs can be added using an expansion hub. There is also a starter set including a hub and two lights.

The last step is to simply select your lights and plug them to the hub. There are lots of options there: stick-on lights (perfect to fit inside a building) or nano lights (they are very small and ideal for spot lighting). They are available in numerous colours: white, warm white, orange, red, blue, green and of required, extension cables are available. Please note they are LED lights, providing maximum light with very low power consumption and no heat. As such they can be used inside card kits like Metcalfe kits. Flashing lights are also available for added effects.

To create the perfect look, Woodland Scenics has also designed two more items. The first one is a light diffusing film. This can be used to cover windows of buildings and will make sure than lights is diffused all over the windows. This will give you a better lit building.

The second one is the opposite: a blocking kit to stop light filtering out where it should not (bottom of a building, kit seams, etc...). Using both of them will create a factory or a house with only a few windows lit, like the real thing. Obviously, these two items can be used even if you light up your buildings the traditional (hard) way.

We believe this system is the safest and easiest way to add lights to any diorama or layout. No tool needed, no electrical knowledge required. And if anything is unclear, we are always available to advise and help!

Send us an email or give us a call to check availability or to reserve anything, whatever scale you model in. As usual, if we do not have in stock what you are looking for, we will order it for you and you will get it fast (usually within a week if the manufacturer has it in stock). We place weekly orders with most suppliers.

Remember, you can park for free for one hour on the High Street. So no excuse not to come and visit us!

Upstairs Downstairs is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4.30pm, Sunday from 1pm till 4pm. We are closed only on Monday.
